The A9500 (A-Line) was Sterling's set-back-axle highway tractor, derived from the aerodynamic Ford AeroMax that Freightliner inherited when it bought Ford's heavy-truck division in 1997. Rather than appearing at the brand's 1998 launch (which fielded the L-Line), the A9500 joined the range in 1999, offered in 113- and 122-inch BBC versions (A9513 and A9522) with engines from Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel and Mercedes-Benz. Its flagship SilverStar trim carried an integral 77-inch stand-up sleeper, and the line ran until Sterling was shut down in 2009.
