It is normally closed and opens at 355 psi to disengage the compressor clutch, protecting the system from over-pressurization. When pressure drops to 205 psi, the switch closes again allowing compressor operation. It is a critical safety component that prevents AC compressor damage and should be replaced if the AC system fails to cycle properly or leaks are detected.
