It monitors R134a refrigerant pressure and cycles the compressor on and off to protect the system. When pressure drops below about 23 psi, the normally open switch opens to prevent compressor damage; it closes again around 47 psi to allow cooling. Commonly replaced when the A/C blows warm intermittently or fails to engage, particularly on Peterbilt trucks from the mid‑90s to early 2010s.
