It pumps R134a refrigerant through the cab’s evaporator to deliver cold air, and comes pre-filled with the correct oil so it can be installed right out of the box. You typically replace it when the original compressor seizes, develops internal leaks, or can no longer build adequate pressure, restoring cooling performance to the sleeper or day cab on hot runs.
