When serial production began in Coolidge, Arizona in March 2022, the Tre BEV became Nikola's first commercially built truck, a Class 8 day cab packing 733 kWh across nine battery packs for up to 330 miles of range at an 82,000-lb gross combined weight. Its place in history turned cautionary: after a June 2023 battery-pack coolant leak sparked a fire at Nikola's Phoenix headquarters, the company recalled all 209 BEVs ever built, a debacle that helped push Nikola into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2025.
