It connects the ends of two leaf springs to balance the load between axles, improving ride quality and reducing stress on the springs. Replacement is needed when the equalizer bushings are worn or the equalizer itself cracks, which can cause misalignment and uneven tire wear. Bushings are not included and must be purchased separately.
