It serves two safety functions: it disconnects the compressor clutch if system pressure drops too low (preventing compressor damage from running dry) and if pressure rises too high (protecting against over-pressurization). It is commonly replaced when the A/C clutch fails to engage, the compressor cycles erratically, or after system service. The switch uses an M10 x 1.25 female thread and is typically found on Freightliner and other commercial vehicles using R-134a refrigerant.
