It delivers controlled air pressure from the foot brake pedal to the trailer brakes. Service gladhands are color-coded blue and have a different keying than red emergency gladhands to prevent cross-coupling. Replace it when the rubber seal leaks, the metal is cracked or corroded, or the detent no longer holds the connection securely.
