It uses air from the vehicle's brake system or a remote supply to smoothly open the valve via a cam mechanism, and automatically closes the valve when the air pressure is released. A built-in thermal plug melts at 212°F to close the valve in a fire, providing an automatic safety shutoff. Replace the actuator if it fails to open or close the valve, shows signs of corrosion on the stainless steel frame, or if the diaphragm leaks.
