When the brake controller sends power to the magnet, it attaches to the spinning armature and activates the brake shoes. Over time the magnet wears down, causing weak or noisy braking, so it should be replaced to restore stopping performance. The kit includes the magnet assembly, retaining clip, and spring needed for a standard 12-inch by 2-inch brake.
