It connects the ends of two leaf springs, allowing them to pivot and distribute weight evenly between axles. It replaces the original Hutchens-style equalizer on trailers with specific four-spring systems, and it typically needs replacement when the hutch is worn, cracked, or the bushings fail, which can cause uneven tire wear, noise, or suspension misalignment. The assembly includes a TRB5541 bushing; a polyurethane-bushed version is available as EQ013UB.
