It is pressed into the mounting bracket on the axle or wheel end to hold the wheel speed sensor in place via a friction fit. The sleeve helps maintain the correct air gap between the sensor face and the tone ring, and it protects the sensor from corrosion and vibration. If the sleeve becomes worn, corroded, or damaged, the sensor may move and cause erratic speed readings or ABS fault codes. Replacement is typically done when installing a new sensor or whenever the old sleeve is compromised.
