It converts the push of the brake chamber and slack adjuster into the twisting force that spreads the brake shoes against the drum. The shaft has a 1-5/8-inch diameter and a 20-15/32-inch length. Typically replaced when splines strip, bushing journals wear, or the cam head and rollers become worn—symptoms include uneven braking, pedal vibration, or dragging brakes. This cam fits certain Meritor/Rockwell 16.5-inch trailer axles with Q or Q Plus brakes.
