It combines a service brake for normal stopping with a powerful spring-actuated parking/emergency brake. The long stroke (nominally 3.00 inches) provides generous pushrod travel, making it suitable for axles with longer cam tube throws. Replacement is typically needed when there is an air leak, diaphragm rupture, weak spring, or excessive pushrod travel.
