The round-bend U-bolt goes around the axle, passes through the spring plate, and is secured with nuts to keep the axle aligned and prevent shifting. Made from 7/8-inch diameter steel with a 3-inch inside width and 14-inch length, it has 6 inches of thread on each leg and is rated Grade 5. Typically replaced during suspension repairs, spring replacement, or when the originals show signs of stretching or corrosion.
