It stops the loading process from starting until a vapor recovery hose is attached — the coupler depresses the plunger button, which locks the trailer’s air brakes and completes the overfill-prevention circuit so the rack monitor can give a green light. Once loading is finished, the vapor hose must be disconnected before the brakes release, keeping the truck from pulling away while still connected. This component is a standard safety device on fuel haulers to prevent spills and vapor loss.
