It removes contaminants like water, oil, and solid particles from the compressed air before they enter the brake system, protecting valves and brake chambers from corrosion and freezing. A failed air dryer leads to moisture buildup in the air tanks, causing brake system malfunctions and increased maintenance costs, so it is typically replaced when the desiccant cartridge is exhausted or the purge valve fails. This assembly is an aftermarket replacement for Bendix original equipment AD-9 dryers and includes the new style end cover for governor mounting.
