It mounts at the bottom of a tank compartment and remains normally closed; it is manually opened to allow gravity offloading of fuels or other liquids. The valve includes a spring-loaded shutoff, a 250°F fusible link that melts in a fire to automatically close, and an integrated shear section designed to break away during a collision to contain product inside the tank. It is commonly replaced when leaking, failing to fully close, or after an impact that activates the shear feature.
