It serves as the steering linkage that connects the left and right front wheels, transmitting motion from the pitman arm to the steering knuckles so the truck can turn. This assembly includes the center tube and replaceable tie rod ends. It is commonly replaced when tie rod ends wear out (causing loose steering or uneven tire wear) or if the tube becomes bent due to impact or collision.
