It is a unitized, nitrile rubber seal with a spring-loaded main lip and patented SURE-LOCK® ribs that prevent shaft leaks and bore contamination. It is designed for oil-lubricated wheel ends on heavy-duty trucks and trailers, where it keeps gear oil in the hub and dirt and water out. You would replace it when you see oil leaking from the wheel hub, during a bearing service, or anytime the seal is damaged or worn.
