It houses the pneumatic valves and an inline primary filter that regulate air pressure to keep trailer tires properly inflated while driving. It replaces the earlier 31084-00 assembly, which was not compatible with Meritor's ThermALERT temperature monitoring system. Failure of this box can cause tires to lose pressure, leading to uneven wear or blowouts, so it is replaced to restore reliable automatic inflation.
