The inner lip stays fixed on the spindle while the outer shell rotates with the hub, reducing wear and providing reliable leak protection against oil and contaminants. It is commonly replaced during wheel bearing service or when an oil leak is detected. The seal measures 2.875" inside diameter, 3.875" outside diameter, and 0.515" wide, and is not intended for grease applications.
