It measures the concentration of NOx gases entering the SCR catalyst, allowing the engine control module to precisely control diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injection. A faulty sensor can trigger check engine lights, derate engine power, increase fuel consumption, or cause emissions failures. Replacement is recommended when diagnostic trouble codes indicate an out-of-range or slow-responding sensor signal.
