It connects the control (service) air line from the truck to the trailer, supplying air for braking when the service pedal is pressed. The 1/2-inch female pipe thread installs onto the air hose, and the blue color marks it as the service side (red is used for the emergency/supply line). Replace it when the rubber seal is cracked, the gladhand is physically damaged, or it fails to hold a tight air seal.
