It uses a 12‑inch diameter by 2‑inch wide brake shoe and is designed for axles rated between 5,200 and 7,000 lbs. When you apply the truck's brake controller, an electromagnet inside the assembly grabs the rotating drum, actuating the shoes to stop the trailer. You replace it when the shoes are worn out, the magnet fails, or the mechanism becomes rusty and sticks, restoring safe, even braking on that wheel.
