It releases the spring brakes using supply air from the tractor and is designed with spring brake priority to prevent compounding of service and spring brake forces. An internal pressure protection valve opens at approximately 80 psi to fill the reservoir. This valve is typically replaced when spring brakes fail to release or air leaks cause pressure loss.
