It is commonly used in DOT-compliant air brake systems on heavy-duty trucks and trailers to connect nylon or polyurethane air lines to valves, brake chambers, or other pneumatic components. The fitting is made of brass with a pre-applied PTFE-based pipe sealant for a leak-proof connection and meets FMVSS 571.106 and SAE J1131 air brake requirements. It is replaced when the fitting becomes worn, corroded, or if the O-ring seal fails, causing air leaks.
