It is designed to be welded onto a driveshaft tube (3-inch outside diameter, 0.083-inch wall) to form a smooth-operating CV joint that reduces vibration and handles moderate angles. The flange end bolts to a mating flange on a differential, transfer case, or transmission. You typically replace it when the original CV head is worn, damaged, or when building a custom driveshaft for a Ford truck or van with 1350-size U-joints.
