It has a splined end for the slip yoke, a bearing journal for the center support bearing, and a butt‑weld end to join drive‑shaft tubing of 2.75 inch outside diameter with .065 inch wall thickness. The stub shaft is typically replaced when the splines are worn, the bearing surface is scored or spalled, or when building a new driveshaft assembly.
