It slides onto a transmission output shaft with a 1.375‑inch diameter, 16‑spline engagement to allow length changes as the suspension moves. The long 7.875‑inch centerline-to-end dimension gives extra spline contact, increasing torque capacity and providing more sliding travel before bottoming out. You would replace it when worn splines cause driveline vibration or clunking, or when upgrading to a heavy‑duty driveline.
