It slides over the 1.375-inch, 16-spline output shaft of a transmission or transfer case and connects to the driveshaft via a 1310 universal joint (1.063-inch caps, 3.219-inch width). This yoke allows the driveshaft to lengthen and shorten as the suspension moves, absorbing driveline plunge. You replace it when the internal splines wear out (causing slop and vibration) or if the u-joint mounting ears become damaged—common after high mileage or u-joint failure. It is greaseable for longer service life.
