It is a 12-volt DC, immersion-proof electromagnetic valve that controls fluid flow to hold the liftgate in position. The assembly originally included a coil (part #906824-01) and a 2-way, normally closed poppet valve (part #290044), but may now be serviced as individual components. It is typically replaced when the solenoid coil fails or the valve sticks, causing the liftgate to drift or become inoperative.
