It is externally air-operated, with an aluminum body, stainless steel trim, and Teflon-encapsulated seals for compatibility with fuels and chemicals. The valve's shear section meets TTMA RP84 and 49CFR178.345-8 standards, so it will break away predictably in a rollover to prevent spills. This valve is typically replaced if it fails to seal, is damaged in an accident, or during routine tanker maintenance.
