It converts the linear push of the brake chamber into the rotational force that spreads the brake shoes against the drum. Designed for Meritor 16‑1/2‑inch brakes, the shaft is 1‑1/2 inches in diameter with 28 splines, a double snap‑ring groove under the head, an induction‑hardened journal, and a forged/machine‑cut head. Replace it when splines are worn, the shaft is twisted, or the head is damaged to restore proper, even braking.
