The fan clutch controls the engine cooling fan, engaging it when the engine needs extra cooling and disengaging it to save fuel and reduce noise when cooling isn't required. You'd replace this unit if the fan isn't engaging or disengaging properly, you hear excessive bearing noise, or the hub has developed excessive play. It's built as a direct bolt-on replacement for Horton HT/S-style fan clutches and comes with a two-bearing hub design.
