It welds into the end of a 4.000‑inch diameter driveshaft tube with a .134‑inch wall and provides the male spline that engages the slip yoke. The spline allows the driveline to change length as the suspension moves, and this shaft is typically replaced when the splines become worn, causing driveline vibration or slack.
