It replaces the older tang-washer design with a cage-style retainer and jam nut, allowing finer bearing adjustment and easier service. The kit includes two of each: spindle nuts, D-washers, retainers, and hex jam nuts. You replace it when repacking or adjusting wheel bearings, or when upgrading from the original retaining hardware.
