It is used to manually actuate a cable-operated emergency valve on cargo tank trailers, allowing the operator to open or close the valve from a central location. The operator includes a fusible link that melts at high temperatures to automatically close the valve in a fire. Replacement is typically needed when the lever mechanism becomes damaged, corroded, or the fusible link is compromised.
