It is a spring-loaded outbreathing relief valve that opens at 1 psig to prevent over-pressurization, providing emergency venting in compliance with DOT MC-306 and NFPA 385/407 standards. The vent threads into a 1.25" NPT port on manhole covers or pipe caps and should be replaced if it fails to seal, leaks, or is damaged during regular tank integrity maintenance.
