It fits into the end of a slip yoke on a heavy-duty truck driveshaft to seal the assembly and keep out dirt, water, and debris. The plug has a small vent hole to allow air to escape when the driveshaft compresses and extends, which prevents pressure buildup. You typically replace this plug when it rusts out, falls out, or if the vent hole gets clogged, as a missing or damaged plug can lead to premature wear in the slip yoke splines.
