It secures wheel bearings and sets preload in conjunction with an outer lock nut. Made of aluminum, it features a 1-1/8-16 outer spindle thread and a 3/4-16 inner thread for a set screw or tie rod. Typically installed on the right (curb) side of the axle. Replace this nut when threads are damaged, worn, or during wheel-end service to maintain safe wheel retention.
