This is an AAM 1355 series universal joint (U-joint) with outside snap rings and non-greasable bearings. It connects the driveshaft to the axle or transmission yoke, allowing angular motion while transferring torque. Worn joints cause clunking or vibration, so they are replaced to restore smooth driveline operation. Neapco now lists this part as obsolete and offers a greasable replacement (2-1355G) for longer service life.
