The seat provides a gas-tight seal when the vent flap is closed, preventing fuel vapors from escaping. It is typically made of Tef-O-Sil (Teflon-encapsulated silicone) for excellent chemical resistance and durability. You would replace this O-ring if the vent fails to seal properly, leading to vapor leaks, failed vacuum tests, or hissing noises.
