The diaphragm is the moving seal inside the vent valve; over time it can harden, crack, or tear, which can cause fuel vapors to leak or the tank to not vent properly. You replace this kit when you notice fuel smells around the tank, a check engine light for EVAP or vent system faults, or if the vent is sticking and causing pressure or vacuum in the tank. This kit is made of Hydrin rubber, which offers good resistance to fuel and oil, and fits both 3-1/2 inch and 5 inch vapor vents.
