This is a Spicer SPL170 series splined sleeve (slip sleeve or splined muff) used in heavy-duty driveshafts.

It slides over the mating splined shaft to let the driveshaft change length as the suspension moves, and must be welded to a tube yoke during assembly. Replace it when the internal splines become worn or damaged—often from lack of grease—because that leads to driveline vibration or failure.
