When a fan clutch slips excessively or fails to engage, the engine can overheat, so this kit is used during a fan clutch rebuild to get it working properly again. The 14-256 kit specifically fits a 2.56-inch fan pilot and uses two 6209-type pulley bearings, and it includes the Auto Lock feature that automatically locks the fan clutch if the friction material wears down, allowing a driver to finish a trip instead of being stranded.
