This is a front crankshaft oil seal (often called the front main seal) for Cummins N14 and 855 series diesel engines. It fits around the crankshaft nose to prevent oil leaks at the front of the engine, keeping oil inside the crankcase and dirt out. It is commonly replaced during engine overhauls, when the seal becomes worn or begins leaking oil. The seal is a bull nose design without a dust shield, and is a direct replacement for the OEM part.
