It serves as the sliding connection between a slip yoke and a driveshaft tube in multi-piece drivelines, allowing the shaft to change length slightly as the suspension moves. You would replace this part when the splines are worn, twisted, or galled, which typically causes driveline vibration, clunking, or excessive play at the slip joint. It fits 4-inch diameter tubing with a 0.095-inch wall and mates with a corresponding slip yoke.
